Our first outing of the long weekend took us to Bolton Abbey, located towards the Yorkshire Dales, its a really nice place to take a walk. We had initially gone there in the hope to catch a Dipper along the river, but never saw it, the only birds we saw where Mallards and some Goldcrest.
I tried to photograph the Goldcrest, but they where just too fast and the photos have been deleted they where that bad.
Here's a couple of shots showing the abbey and the river.
Then it was back to my local patch / Martin Mere to see what was going on there.
Whooper swans are still there in thousands.
I sat in the Janet Kier hide for a while watching the Reed Buntings and Long Tailed Tits, they are such acrobatic birds the LTT as you can see in my photo, holding on to the twig with one leg whilst holding a seed in the other and trying to eat it. 2nd shot is a female Reed Bunting.
Wigeon are another favourite of mine and are in good numbers over the reserve.
Photos taken 21/03 and 22/03.
Stunning shots Mike.
ReplyDeleteYour images are so wonderful, I'll be looking in from now on - The widgeon, particularly, is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic shot of the LTT! He certainly looks to be very acrobatic. The Abbey is lovely! I love wandering around old ruins and got to see Tintern Abbey one year. The Reed Bunting reminds me of our Song Sparrow. Its a very pretty little bird! The duck is so perfect looking it almost looks unreal! Nice post.
ReplyDeleteI love the shot of the abbey and the countryside, too. Wonderful. Places like that intrigue me. The birds are terrific, too!
ReplyDeleteHi everyone, thanks again for all your comments.
ReplyDeleteThe LTT shot is just priceless. It shows how acrobatic those little birds are. The Wigeon is gorgeous too. Aren't you glad the Abbey stood still for you to photograph.;)
ReplyDeleteAmazing shots as usual. The last one is just out of this world. I really enjoyed this post. Wonderful work.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa, it was the hardest pic I have ever taken, because I only had my big lense on I had to climb as high up the hill as I could.
ReplyDeleteCheers Travis most appreciated.
I followed you from Sandpiper's Place and am so glad I did! Wonderful bird photography and even pictures of the area of my 'roots'. My mother's family came from Halifax, Yorkshire. We have visited a couple of times. I'm going to put your site on my links.
ReplyDeleteMike your shots are jaw-dropping as always. Great work!
