Young Gold Finch

Just the usual Great Tit and Coal Tit in the garden today, although we did have a brief visit from a juvenile Gold Finch which I managed to snap, hope you like it.

I'm easing off a bit on the zoom and crop because some/most of my shots get right in your face, I think it makes for a more pleasing shot, what do you think? Although I will still post the odd portrait.

Photos taken with Nikon D70 + Sigma 170-500mm @ 350mm.

  1. Good ones, Mike.
For Zoom and crop - as long as the quality is good you're welcome to get in my face! :)
Though zooming out every once in a while is good, too!
    Cheers, Klaus

  2. Hey Mike. I wouldn't mind seeing an overall shot of your garden where you see your birds.

As long as your pictures are sharp, they always are, they are a pleasure to look at. Keep firing away.

  3. I find your British birds fascinating and when I see a familiar name, such as Goldfinch, I look for a familiar picture, such as our American Goldfinch. Not quite the same today, but I like the yellow stripe on its hind quarters. I like your Goldfinch.

I have a habit also of creating pictures too close sometimes too for although the beauty close up is sometimes so remarkable and astonishing, the environment is nice to include too. Hmmmm... what to do, what to do.

  4. I am glad you stopped. Now I can come to your blog. Thank you for visiting my blog and for leaving a comment there so I know you visited. LOL It means a lot to me.

Your photography is excellent. And your coal tit is much like our chickadee (see my birds blog). Several of your birds are similar or much line the ones here.

  5. I like both types. The zoom and crop let you see the details of the feathers and such and you are such a great photographer who can do it so well! But seeing from a bit of a distance gives a sense of what the bird does or how it acts. That can make it an interesting shot, also. Wonderful photos as always!

  6. Very nice Mike. I have actually seen these while I lived back home.
Do you know they actually sell them as pets here in some Canadian petstores !

  9. I think either type of shot is great but variety is always nice. Ultimately I think it's about how you want to present it.
