Flash Mammals

Strange title I know, but the following pics where taken at Pennington Flash.

I originally went to PF to photograph Bullfinches, but with the heavy rain we have had lately the hide which you can normally see these birds was completely flooded and the bird tables which are normally full of food where all empty so we didn't see a single one.

I did manage to get a few pics of birds which I will show once I have finished editing them, but for now here are few squirrel shots (taking inspiration from Mary's squirrel Sunday).

This little guy was adorable and was begging to be snapped, hope you like them.

I also saw a Rat which must be loving the flooded areas, or at least it appeared to be.

All pics taken Sunday 05/10/2008 with a Nikon D70 + Sigma 170-500mm.

  1. Great shots Mike. That 3rd one of the Squirrel is a real keeper, and I noticed the fly on the Rat hitching a lift :-)

  2. You must have such patience mike. not only in waiting for the right moment to take the pics, but then to edit them - something which I can never get into!! Hope that Green woodpecker comes by soon :-)

  3. The squirrel photos are spot on. I like squirrels anyway as I like most animals but there is a big difference between good and excellent and these are in that latter category. I use a Canon and will see what kind of long lens Sigma makes for Canon. I see your Sigma 170-500mm for Nikon.

  4. The squirrel is really cute! I love the 4th photo on the branch! You got some great close-ups! I can see every whisker :-) Definitely cuter than the rat! Yuck!

  5. Those squirrel pictures are adorable. I love the one that looks like he is peeking into your room. ha... I can even see his toe nails in the first shot.

I could do without the rat picture. UGH. I just don't like them. I know some can be useful but really..this looks like a regular gutter rat. UGH... Great picture though.

  6. Great captures! And the rat is every bit as cute as the squirrel. No bushy tail - ok.
But other than that - they are all rodents!
    Good work!

  9. These fellows are pretty cute! We'll have to ask Mary to host a Squirel Sunday special when we can all post Suqirrels for a day. I can't believe I'm saying this but even the Rat has a certain amount of appeal.
