We decided on Pennington Flash a free nature reserve which has 4 main hides and a number of viewing points and made up of large lakes and woodland areas.

There is also a number of carving done in old tree stumps and posts, the photo below shows a woodpecker, but there is also a hedgehog and other carvings there.
Its a great place for waterfowl, however the Bunting Hide is the one I like to spend the most time in. It mainly has garden birds, today we saw, GS Woodpecker, Brambling, Greenfinch, Reed Bunting, Long Tailed Tits, Bluetits and Robins you can see pics of all these birds HERE in my gallery.I have a couple of pictures from your more common garden visitors, Blue Tit & Robin.
And a couple of your not so common visitors Bullfinch. You can really see the difference in these birds between male & female, the male is first. You may think I have made the female bullfinch shot really grey, but this is how they look.

ReplyDeleteMike. Great photos. Love the bullfinches. They are regular visitors to our feeders in the garden. In fact their were still two on there at 5.30pm today.... getting pretty dark. You have really caught the colours of them brilliantly. Thanks for sharing these! Jane
ReplyDeleteGorgeous birds! and so colorful! They all look so little and fat and cute. I love that Robin...so different from ours! The Bluetit and Bullfinch are neat, too! That tree carving was wonderful...what a great idea. Do you have pics of the hedgehog carving? I love hedgehogs and wish we had them here.

Thanks Mary, I never photographed the hedgehog I will get one next time I go and post it.
The Bullfinch male is qutie the handsome bird. It reminds me of our Northern Cardinal with the brilliant red coloring.

That little robin has such personality all puffed up. He looks quite jaunty.
