So for part two of my Mere Sands Wood visit I wanted to show some of the variety of birds that are present around the reserve.
1st shot is a Greenfinch, quite common really but still stunning to see, 2nd again is a Dunnock and also really common to gardens and 3rd is a Chaffinch which are pretty much everywhere.
Not so common is a Tree Sparrow shown in the next shot, followed by a Juv Robin which I find to be just stunning.
Finally this was my shot of the day, I have heard these birds many times before, but never been lucky enough to photograph one, its a Reed Warbler.
A pretty good afternoon out.
All shots taken 13/07/2008.
Before I say how great the pictures are - the layout now is great!
ReplyDeleteAnd now how to great the pictures are. They are thaaaaaaat great!
Wonderful - I admire anyone able to catch those little critters.
Cheers, Klaus
One remark to the comment restriction though.
Disallowing anonymous comments = good.
Only allowing people with Blogger ID - a little problematic. Not everyone has one!
Great photos Mike. It is always a challenge to get photos of warblers. They are such busy little birds. The juvenile Robin is good too. Heck, I like them all.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful photos and a great variety! I don't think I can pick a favorite of the lot! I love all the texture in the juv. robin...can see why you like that one! Great job on getting the warbler. I was frustrated to have missed one today :-( It's always nice to shoot photos of a bird you don't already have. Photographers don't just have "life list" we have "life photo lists" as well! What is that tiny little red spot on the chaffinch right above the leaf?? You get so much detail in your shots that everything stands out. I love the glossy brown (auburn?) of that one!
ReplyDeleteGreat images again Mike... but let me tell you why!! (In my opinion) :)
ReplyDeleteTo capture any animal and specifically birds is quite challenging. Not even thinking about getting the image perfectly sharp.
The bonus, and you capture this beautifully, is to show the catch light in the animals eyes.
Very difficult with small birds but you got it every time!
Well done!!
Hi Klaus, thanks for the comment and background help on my blog
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa, they certainly are and won't still for long.
Hi Mary, I think the red spot is a bud on the leaf stem, thanks for your comment.
Cheer Gerry, something I must have is the reflection in the birds eye, thanks for your comment
More beautiful photos! I can't get over the eyes and how clear they are. Your photos are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThis entire site is just wonderful. I am definitely bookmarking it for reference.
ReplyDeleteThese are spectacular photos.
Great shot of the Tree Sparrow - most impressive.
