Whenever I visit Formby Point which is about 30 mins from my house I always show the woods, which is great, but as I only saw 1 red squirrel and the fox was nowhere to be seen I thought I would show the other side to Formby Point.
The first shot is showing the beach, its looking a bit shabby in the picture, but great for wading birds, it was also getting late in the evening and looks much nicer during the day. You can make out the windmills from the offshore wind farm.
Something I had never given much thought to is how big the windmills are, you can see in the next shot when scaled against a passing boat they are huge, the other thing that really surprised me when I was looking through my photos is the bird flying by, if I'm not mistaken its a Gannett, we could see something diving into the water but this wasn't in my list of guesses.
So just to finish off here are a few bird shots, the first one is a pair of crows, looks like they are settling down for the night.
All photos taken 12/08/2008.
Oh, Mike the inflight shots are top notch. And the shot with the tanker gives you a true sense of the dimensions of these Windmills.
ReplyDeleteGood job!
Cheers, Klaus
What a great looking beach and ocean! Those huge windmills are fascinating. We need more of those in this world. The birds settling for the night...sweet. The bird launching itself reminds me of a swimmer taking off at the Olympics (which I've been glued to :-)
ReplyDeleteThose windmills are awesome. I had no idea they were that big. Your gull photos are awesome too. I love the one taking off from its perch.
ReplyDeleteIt never occured to me that they might make a windfarm off-shore. That might not annoy the neighbors so much as some of the ones we have here. I took pictures when we were in the San Francisco Bay area last month. There are acrew and acres of them there. We have some near here, too, but nothing like those near SF.
ReplyDeleteFantastic shots of in-flight birds!!
ReplyDeleteSomething I'm trying to improve on - now I've got a goal in your pics
There are places here in Cali, I think up towards Bakersfield, where there are fields of those windmills but they look so much more interesting when they seem to be sitting on the water. The bird shots are... Wow! That's all I can say. Wow!
