Waxwing

Can't begin to tell you how many places I have been to in the hope of seeing one of these birds, so this weekend very determined and after a couple of trips out and 240 miles of driving we managed to see some.

In fact we managed to see something in the region of 80, never seen one until today now I have seen 80+.

Here are some shots I managed to get, again shot at ISO800 due to very poor light conditions.

    The first two are great shots. The last two are more like what I end up getting when trying to shot Waxwings. Ha... They are difficult to find since they are so nomadic. Watch for berries. They are great berrry eaters.

    Many cograts Mike, you got some v nice shots. There were a few in my old home town of Stevenage a little while ago. You weren't there were you ? :-)

    I have never seen one of these in my backyard. I have seen some new birds last spring that were never here before so maybe in 2009 I will get to see one or two. I like your shots and at 800ISO I am surprised I don't see some color noise in the dark areas.

    Congratulations! The first couple shots are lovely! They are such beautiful birds. The only ones I have ever seen have been like the tree shots...far away and dark. Would love to have closer shots. I think I will have to plant a tree or bush that they like.

    HI Mike,
    It is a wonderful bird. I've seen it for the first time last year in October in Finland, like thousand of them were surrounding me. It was during their migration to the Southern Scandinavian countries. I was in the middle of the berries they were eating.
    Then few weeks later I saw them in Reykjavík (4 of them arrived there)...
    It is hard to make nice pictures in low light conditions but you managed well...
