A welcome return.

A nice surprise this morning, looked out of the window and saw a Nuthatch.

I haven't seen these birds since Jan / Feb and I'm pretty certain there was a pair.

I managed to get a few shots and I am hoping they will stay around for a while so I can get more photos to post. Hope you like these...

We also had a few Great tits around the feeders, I managed to catch this one. Surprisingly these birds are very difficult to get right, even in the shot below the white on the side of the face is over exposed, I normally shoot these the the exposure knocked down a bit, but didn't do the trick this time, maybe that's just me being over critical.

All photos taken 25/08/2008 with Nikon D70 + Sigma 170-500mm.

  1. Wow! Mike - how the heck did you do that? The Sigma is a nice piece of glass - but you must have been very close anyway! Excellent!

  3. Thanks guys, I'm about 3-4 mtrs away from my feeding tree where all the birds land and I have a good speck hanging out of my window, glad you like them, cheers.

  4. I'm glad you explained all the flaws in your photos to us, because we would have never noticed them :-) Wonderful, as always! What great close-ups on the nuthatch!

  5. That first picture is gorgeous (the others are as well... but that one does it for me). It looks like the bird is coming out of the picture. I wish my pics were 10% as good as these! Jane

  6. I'm with Jane thinking that the nuthatch looks like it could fly right off of the computer screen. Good shot.

  7. Your little Red-breasted Nuthatches look just like ours on this side of the ocean. And the Tits look like our Black-capped chickadees. Very nice pictures. I see Chickadees daily but like you, I haven't seen Nuthatches now for a long time. Very nice pictures.

  8. 'Are you looking at me?'

I agree - I love the first photos too. What a delight they must be to see in your garden. I can't imagine what your 'better' shots would be like ;-)
