Bit of scenery

Just a quick post, but it would be rude to go up to the highlands and not get some snaps of the local scenery.

These shots where taken on our return trip along the road thats runs from Inverness along Loch Ness and down as far as Loch Lomand and a stunning drive it is too.

First pic is Loch Ness.
All photos taken with Nikon D70

Back to birding and wildlife now.

Until next time.

Scotland (6) - Red Kite

I am hoping that I have saved the best until last, it certainly is for me as I am a big fan of birds of prey.

After following the Galloway Red Kite trail you come to a farm which says Red Kite feeding area and instantly you see 10+ Kites circling around.

I have never seen a Red Kite before and by the end of the feeding I had seen something in the region of 30, all completely wild, but hang around for the free meat.

I hope you liked the Red Kite photos and thanks for viewing my trip to Dumfries and Galloways, Scotland.

Scotland (5) - Feeding time

Feeding time and obviously a lot of mouths to feed, the song thrushes where quite numerous around the site, I was lucky enough to get quite close to this one and get a few shots off.

The shots are as follows 1 & 2). Song Thrush, 3). Blackbird, 4). ?

I'm not too sure of the ID on the last shot, I believe it is a pipit of some sort, looks like a meadow to me, can anyone help with the ID.

Just one more to go..

Scotland (4) - Sea Birds & Waders

Here are a few of the many sea birds I saw on my travels around the coast, the Gannet and Guillamots where taken at the Mull of Galloway, the others where taken by chance driving along the coast roads.

Hope you like them.

1). Ringed Plover, 2). Tern, 3). Turnstone, 4). Gannet, 5). Guillamot, 6) Eider.

Scotland (3) - Colours

I wanted to try and show some of the beautiful scenery and colours that are around at the moment, you will have to help me with the flowers, but I believe they are bluebells.

Something different for a change.

Hope you like the pics.
The last two shots where taken in the Forest of Galloway.

Scotland (2) - Variety

Here are a few shots of the variety of wildlife and birds that you get around the Dumfries & Galloways area, most of the birds where taken around the camp site where we stayed.

1). Linnet, 2). Rabbit, 3). Whitethroat, 4). Jackdaw, 5). Chaffinch, 6). Sparrow.

Hope you like them.

Scotland (1) - Swallows

This is the first installment of six and I'm hoping I will have saved the best till last.

The following shots where taken at the Mull of Galloway, the most south westerly point of Scotland, and a beautiful place it is too.

I was hoping to get more sea birds, but they where just too far out at sea, the few shots I got you will sea in the following posts.

Hope you like the Swallow shots.
